For engagement ranges out to 800yds the .308 Winchester has reigned supreme within the military units across the globe since its adoption as the 7.62 NATO round.  Although the use of appropriate twist rates to stabilize projectiles boasting high ballistic coefficients will allow adequate performance out to 1000yds, the 308 is significantly outclassed at distance by the 300 magnum.  The creation of the .300 Winchester Short Magnum allows incredible long range accuracy potential from a short action rifle.  Even though the belted long action .300 Winchester magnum is still popular with our customers, there is no doubting the extremely efficient ignition characteristics of the .300WSM.  The next progression beyond the distance potential of the .300WSM, are the .338 Magnums.  Both Remington and Lapua chamberings offer the ability to launch the 300gr .338 boat tail hollow point bullet out to 1500yds and beyond and still maintain supersonic performance with minimal wind deflection.
